Preventing
Clostridial Entertoxemia
Types
C & D |
Clostridial enterotoxemia types C
& D manifests itself in feedlot conditions most notably
by sudden death. No symptoms may appear to warn of a
problem, so the best solution is prevention. This can
be achieved through a thorough vaccination program.
It is recommended that this vaccine
be administered yearly, with a booster given after 28 days.
If animals are under significant stress, it is a good idea
to vaccinate more frequently. Once a bottle of vaccine
has been opened or used, discard the remaining contents and
do not continue to administer from this bottle the next day.
It is more cost effective to purchase smaller dose bottles
than to have dead steers.
There are many different brands of
vaccines available and most are relatively inexpensive,
ranging from $0.15 to $0.75 per dose. A good example
of this type of vaccine is Ultrabac 7.
